Safest Cities in Florida: Marco Island & Naples Make the Top 10

We all want our loved ones to be safe. Whether that’s walking to school, playing outside in the neighborhood or tucked away at night. Our family’s security sits high on the list of priorities when searching for a Southwest Florida home. Just last month, the National Council for Home Safety and Security (NCHSS) released its “Safest Cities in Florida” list for 2020. Marco Island and Naples made the Top 10 out of more than 100 cities reviewed.

Looking for a beautiful place to live that your family can also feel safe in? Marco Island and Naples ranked #3 and #6 on the NCHSS list of "Safest Cities in Florida" for 2020.

Safest Cities in Florida

Search homes for sale in the Naples/Marco Island areaThe NCHSS compiled a list of FBI crime stats from 129 Florida cities to determine which Florida cities were the safest. Marco Island ranked #3 while Naples came in at the 6th spot. As tourist cities, both Marco Island and Key Biscayne share many characteristics in common. Crime tends to be scarce in both places. Marco Island’s statistics actually skewed lower for violent and property crimes per 1000 people. However, it ranked just behind Key Biscayne due to the fewer law enforcement employees in the city.

How Rankings Were Determined

The officials at the NCHSS reviewed the FBI’s 2018 crime statistics (the most recent year available). They dismissed any cities from the list that either didn’t submit their stats to the FBI or whose population fell below 10,000. They looked at both violent (murders, rapes, robberies, aggravated assault) and non-violent crimes (burglary, motor vehicle theft, larceny, arson). Then, they added up the total of both and divided it by the total number of residents. In turn, this created a “crimes per 1000 people” ratio. After that, they looked at how many law enforcement personnel each city employs. The higher the personnel per number of residents, the higher the ranking.

Hundreds of artists showcase their talents at the Naples National Art Show 2020 in Cambier Park on February 22nd & 23rd.

Naples National Art Show 2020

Search homes for sale in the Naples/Marco Island areaAt the Naples National Art Show, judges encourage artists to utilize any medium they feel most comfortable with. So, you may see glasswork, woodwork, metal, and mixed media next to paintings, photographs, and pottery.

Stick around after the show on Saturday. The Blu-Tones entertain the audience with their renditions of classic hits from the 50s, 60s, and 70s. Artichoke & Co offer delicious tidbits of food for sale as well as several non-alcoholic drinks. It’s strictly BYOB/BYOC (bring your own blanket/bring your own chair). No seating will be provided. Organizers forbid outside food and drink on the premises.

Admission & Parking

Admission and parking to the show are both provided free of charge. However, it costs Naples Art money to host this show each year. Providing a fantastic forum for artists to showcase their work comes at a cost, especially one that makes many top art show lists around the country. Therefore, they suggest (not demand) that anyone attending donate $5 each at the gate to help offset costs. Parking will be available along 5th Ave and Cambier Park.
