International Coastal Cleanup 2019 Along Naples & Marco Island Beaches

Our Southwest Florida coastline is valuable real estate in more ways than one. Besides actual home values, these beaches provide a place for the area’s natural flora and fauna to flourish. It also provides endless hours of entertainment for our loved ones. We need to keep it clean and free from debris that might wash out into the ocean and harm the creatures living there. You can help by joining the International Coastal Cleanup 2019 along Naples, Marco Island, and Everglade City beaches this weekend.

Help keep our Southwest Florida beaches clean and our ocean water safe from harmful trash at the International Coastal Cleanup 2019 in Naples, Marco Island & Everglades City.

International Coastal Cleanup 2019

Search homes for sale in the Naples/Marco Island areaBack in 1986, two women working for the Ocean Conservancy (Linda Maraniss and Kathy O’Hara) spoke with the Texas General Land Office about organizing volunteers to clean up their local beach. But instead of just picking up trash, they wanted to catalog every piece of trash and where it was found. They believed this would help them find ways to reduce and/or eliminate future ocean waste.

This idea quickly caught on. It eventually grabbed the attention of countries around the world. Today, dozens of countries and hundreds of coastal cities around the country participate in a coastal cleanup.

How to Join In

One way to participate in the coastal cleanup is to simply show up at any of the beaches listed below before 8 am on Saturday, September 21st. Make sure you wear sunscreen, a hat, and glasses to protect yourself from the sun. Bring a bottle of water with you to stay hydrated. If you have a large group of at least 10 people (boy/girl scouts, co-workers, clubs or organizations), you need to pre-register. To do so, contact Keep Collier Beautiful at (239) 580-8319 or via email. With only a few days left, you need to contact them right away.

July 4th 2019 Fireworks in Naples & Marco Island

Are you hosting your own backyard barbecue on Thursday? Spending it by yourself? Looking for something to do or somewhere to go for Independence Day festivities? Try a parade in the morning and July 4th 2019 fireworks in the evening around both Naples and Marco Island.

In addition to the July 4th fireworks shows at night in Naples and Marco Island, you won't want to miss the parade or ice cream social taking place earlier in the day in Naples, too.

July 4th Parade

Before the skies light up with fireworks. Even before any cookouts begin. Celebrate the 4th of July with a parade through Naples. Starting at 10 am, watch patriotically decorated floats and marching bands make their way along Broad Ave South to 3rd St. Then, they turn east on 5th Ave S to 8th St. Finally, it ends at 8th Ave S. Come early to scout out a good spot along the parade route. Bring a lawn chair for comfort.

Ice cream and fireworks come free of charge. However, if you crave more sustenance, food vendors sell their wares to the public. Organizers reserve parking spaces at Sugden for our disabled guests. Nearby establishments provide off-site parking for all others. Arrive early with your lawn chairs and blankets for a great time on the 4th.

Local Naples and Marco Island chefs join Summer Sizzle SWFL Restaurant Week 2019 from May 30th to June 12th. So, it really should be called restaurant weeks. Several restaurants in nearby Cape Coral, Fort Myers, and Estero/Bonita also join the ticket for these 15 days of mouthwatering culinary masterpieces. In fact, several of the restaurants that Naples Daily News’ own food critic, Jean Le Beouf named as THE top Naples restaurants for 2019 partner up for Summer Sizzle.

Each participating restaurant puts together their own prix-fixe brunch and/or dinner menus created specifically for Summer Sizzle. All you need to do to participate is to visit the list of restaurants, pick which one you want to go to, and give them a call. While reservations aren’t always required, they are highly recommended. This tends to be a pretty busy time. Click on the menu link next to the restaurant’s name to see what’s available on the prix-fixe menu before you go. And make sure you specifically request the prix-fixe menu when ordering from your server.

Sizzle SWFL Scholarship Program

When you order one of the prix-fixe menus during Summer Sizzle SWFL Restaurant Week 2019, $1 will be donated to the Sizzle SWFL FGCU Food & Beverage Scholarship. This scholarship award goes to students attending the Florida Gulf Coast University’s Resort & Hospitality Program. Between the two restaurant week events hosted throughout the year, over 60,000 meals are served. That helps several local students with their education. The Catch of the Pelican in Naples and Artisan Eatery in Fort Myers both pledged to donate more than $1 per meal served. So, show them some extra love when deciding where to eat. Bon appétit!
