Naples Water Quality Testing Scam

We expect the City to pump safe water into our households. Whether bathing in it, drinking it or cooking in it, it needs to be safe for our families to use. Flint, MI popped up on our radar back in 2014. As of June 2019, the mayor of Flint still couldn’t tell the public with 100% certainty that the water was safe to drink. Unfortunately, with very real issues like this, scammers popped up to take advantage. City officials want to make residents aware of a Naples water quality testing scam currently making the rounds.

Beware of companies offering free testing of your household water. They might be part of a Naples water quality testing scam going around via mail right now.

Naples Water Quality Testing Scam

What to Look For

Search homes for sale in the Naples/Marco Island areaSome of you might have received a postage-paid notice in the mail from an official-sounding company like District Water Testing. They ask you to fill out a quick form, including your name and address. Then, they want you to mail it back to them. They say that they will contact you for a free test of your household water, including any softeners or purifiers you use.

Beware! This is NOT an official notice from the City. Instead, this company sells home water treatment devices. The likelihood of their company “discovering” high levels of substances in your water are good. But it isn’t anything that their device can’t fix for a fee, of course. They might even use a litmus test of sorts right in front of you. This test changes the color of the test paper to indicate unhealthy levels of bacteria, metals, chlorine, sulfur, iron, etc. It’s all a scam. The only true testing for these substances takes place in a lab.

What to Do

If you receive a notice like this in the mail, do not fill it out. Perform a quick Google search of the company name to see if it’s real or not. Check for reviews of the company. Then, contact the City of Naples’ Water Treatment Plant at (239) 213-3004 to let them know about it. They can also answer any questions you might have about the quality of Naples’ water. It performs literally tens of thousands of tests each year in compliance with the USEPA and Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s safety standards.

Meant to be a family-friendly affair, bring the kids with you. Watch for the “no parking” signs around the pier. Local police strongly enforce these. And, please, stay away from private properties and driveways without the owner’s permission.

Naples Winter Restaurant Week 2019

Search homes for sale in the Naples/Marco Island areaWinter Sizzle actually takes place in Naples, Marco Island, Bonita Springs, Fort Myers, and Cape Coral. And it actually transpires over the course of two weeks, not one. The majority of the more than five dozen restaurants participating in Winter Sizzle operate out of Naples. But, no matter where you reside in the area, I’m sure there’s a restaurant near you to check out.

How Does it Work?

First, visit the SWFL Restaurant Week’s website to find the restaurant(s) you want to visit. Then, contact that restaurant to reserve your table during this 14-day event. If you’ve participated in any previous restaurant weeks in the area before, you know how busy these restaurants get. So, definitely call ahead. Each restaurant offers pre-fixed lunch menus ($16 to $21) and/or dinner menus ($26 to $36) with specials not found on their regular menus. If you’ve always wanted to try a particular restaurant before, now is the time!

Dining With a Purpose

What makes these restaurants different from others in the Naples/Marco Island area? Well, when you visit one during the Winter Sizzle event, $1 from each meal benefits the SWFL’s FGCU Food and Beverage Scholarship. This scholarship awards money to students who seek education in the food and beverage industry.

Shopping builds up an appetite. For sustenance, make your reservation at one of our fine local restaurants participating in Winter Sizzle SWFL Restaurant Week 2019. Dining with a purpose never tasted so good.
