Naples Homeowners: Minor Updates Create a Major Impression in the Kitchen

Kitchens represent the heart of a home. But totally gutting and remodeling one costs tens of thousands of dollars. Naples homeowners can use minor updates to create a major impression in the kitchen. And most of these projects can be completed over the course of one weekend by you alone.

Looking to update the look of your kitchen? Don't want to break the bank to do so? Luckily, Naples homeowners have several options available.

Naples Homeowners: Minor Kitchen Updates That Add a “Wow” Factor

Pulls/Knobs/Handles

Probably the easiest way for Naples homeowners to update the look of their kitchen is by adding or changing out the pulls, knobs or handles on drawers and cabinets. Concentrate on one finish for the entire room. One that complements your faucet or appliances would be a good choice. Or, for something a little more kitschy, look for porcelain/painted knobs. Always make sure to count how many of each you’ll need before you go shopping. You don’t want to come up short.

Fresh Paint

Another simple solution for Naples homeowners to update their kitchen is with a fresh coat of paint. Make sure you tape off the cabinets, counters, backsplash, appliances, etc. before you paint, though. Otherwise, you risk slopping paint onto these surfaces. Sometimes, the preparation done before you paint takes longer than the actual act of painting. But, it’s worth the time it takes to do the job right. You can always hire a pro to paint. However, this may cost you thousands of dollars to do so. The choice is yours. If you take the DIY route, talk to your local home improvement store about how to prep and paint correctly. A little homework goes a long way.

One of the hottest trends right now is to paint one wall with chalkboard paint. It comes in a variety of colors and can be a fun addition to the room. If you’re not that adventurous, painting one portion of a wall and adding a frame allows a space for your menu, grocery list, weekly activities or anything else you might need to remind your busy family members about.

Cabinets and Shelving

Another kitchen update Naples homeowners might want to consider is painting the cabinets. If they’re in good condition, a coat of paint turns dated cabinetry into a modern masterpiece. For a more sophisticated update, take out the center of your cabinet door and replace it with an opaque glass insert. Over the last couple of years, open shelving became a designer trend. Instead of ripping out all of your cabinets, take down one small section and replace it with simple shelves. Stack your prettiest dishes, cookbooks, potted herbs, or anything else you want to show off here.

Add a Backsplash

For a little more money, add a backsplash in your kitchen. Home improvement stores provide dozens of options. Many of these options are both affordable and can be done by Naples homeowners themselves. Talk to the associate at your local home improvement store for any tips and tricks. You only need to invest a few hours of your time to make a major change in your kitchen’s appearance.

Switch Out the Faucet

One area often overlooked in the kitchen is the faucet. It doesn’t take much effort to switch it out for a newer model. And you literally have hundreds to choose from. Go fancy with a touchless faucet. Change out a solid faucet for a pull-out one with extendable sprayer head. Replace a brass finish with a rubbed bronze or brushed nickel. In just an hour or two, your kitchen faucet will look decades younger.

Add or Update the Lighting

Finally, overhead fluorescent lights are out! Pendants create focused lighting and are great for hanging over an island. Recessed lights add extra illumination without overpowering the area. You might even want to think about adding undercabinet lighting for an elegant soft glow during evening hours.

Any of these simple updates create a major impression in the kitchen of Naples homeowners. Relatively easy and much lower in cost than a major overhaul, most of these updates can be completed over the course of a weekend. A low investment of time and money, a big impact on your kitchen’s appearance. That’s cost-effectiveness at its finest. Which project will you be tackling first?

2018 Marco Island Seafood and Music Festival

Living on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico, we enjoy fresh seafood year round. And our local chefs are second to none. So, when the Marco Island Sunrise Rotary Club wanted to raise money for their philanthropic endeavors back in 2007, it made sense that seafood should be a part of it. With the help of another local rotary club and the Kiwanis, this annual event quickly became a local favorite. A few years later, music was added into the mix. Now, more than 10,000 people come to the festival every year. The latest incarnation, the 2018 Marco Island Seafood and Music Festival, just may be the biggest event of its kind on Marco Island ever.

Help the Rotary & Kiwanis clubs continue their community programs by attending the 2018 Marco Island Seafood and Music Festival. You enjoy three days of fun. Our community and our children reaps the rewards.

You’ll have plenty of other “landlubber” fare to choose from. A special Kids Zone opens at 11 am each day of the festival. After all, this is a family-friendly event. In the Kids Zone, children are free to do some rock climbing, play in the bounce house, slide down the giant inflatables, and work off their frenetic energy on the trampolines. Meanwhile, you get to shop to your heart’s content on vendor row. While musical acts keep guests entertained throughout the entire day, the headliners are the Ben Allen Band (Fri, 6 pm to 9 pm), Almost ABBA (Sat, 6 pm to 9 pm), and Deb & the Dynamics Band (Sun, 2 pm to 5 pm).

Enhancing Your Naples-Marco Island Home’s Curb Appeal

You’ll never have a second chance to make a first impression. This adage rings especially true when selling your home. If you want buyers knocking on your front door, you need to make sure your Naples-Marco Island home’s curb appeal strikes a stellar chord. To do that, you’ll need to know which areas draw a buyer’s eye upon first glance.

Most buyers turn to their computers first when searching for a new home. Your Naples-Marco Island home's curb appeal should be a top priority before you list.

Where to Concentrate Your Naples-Marco Island Home’s Curb Appeal Efforts

Landscape

Your Naples-Marco Island home’s landscaping most likely makes up the majority of your home’s curb appeal. That’s because it tends to take up the most space. You want it to be visually appealing to buyers. First of all, make sure to keep your lawn mowed regularly. Also, trim your shrubs and check for weeds weekly. For a quick pop of color, add flower boxes to your front windows. If you need a major overhaul, consult your local nursery about what plants and flowers work best for your front lawn. Pay attention to the caretaking requirements of each. Keep lawn ornaments to a minimum. A beautiful birdbath says “I like nature”. Dozens of pink flamingos or garden gnomes do not.

Driveway

Next, your Naples-Marco Island home’s curb appeal can be hindered by an unkempt driveway or walkway. When weeding your flower bed and lawn, check for overgrowth or weeds in the separation between stones, concrete slabs or pavers. A cracked driveway creates a disheveled look. It may also form a tripping hazard for guests. If your driveway or walkways are too cracked or broken to repair, you may want to consider investing in replacing them completely. Make sure to keep the walkway to the front door completely clear of any overgrowth. And add high wattage bulbs to your exterior light fixtures.

Entryway

After you’ve tended to the landscaping and driveway, your next curb appeal efforts should be focused on the entryway. Does your door look a little tired? Paint it. Color coordinate it with your trim and/or shutters. Or, paint it a bright red for a pop of color all its own. Replace your welcome mat. A lovely water feature, potted plants, and hanging plants add a nice “homey” touch. If there’s room, include a rocking chair or two. Welcome visitors with a pretty wreath on the front door. Leafy ones with daisies, daffodils, and other blossoming blooms for spring. Bundles of twigs with sunflowers, autumn leaves, and berries for the fall. Make sure your doorbell works, too. If your light fixtures appear a bit worse for wear, replace them. And always add higher wattage bulbs for the outside.

Roof

Finally, an often overlooked area of importance for your Naples-Marco Island home’s curb appeal: the roof. Keep gutters clear of debris. It’s March. Your Chrismas lights should be taken down and stored neatly away by now. If you used clips to hang your lights and/or other holiday decorations, take them down. You want a nice clean look for buyers to see. And, if your roof needs mending, now’s the time to do it. Broken tiles and torn shingles can make even the newest of homes feel old and tired. And, buyers might worry about damage seeping inside through these cracks.
